Alison is a board member of NOrF and a patient/public representative. She is passionate about improving care around deteriorating patients following a long critical illness. She also holds a board position on the International Society of Rapid Response Systems.    

Vanessa Jones is the lead for the Welsh arm of NOrF (WOrF).

Siobhan Tierney-Pyke is a registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner and serves as the co-opted board member of the National Outreach Forum (NOrF) and played a pivotal role in establishing the Irish Chapter of NOrF.

Debbi has 25+ years of critical care experience and a passion and enthusiasm for all things outreach related.  She has diverse leadership experience gained across 3 organisations in a variety of critical care roles during complex and challenging times and is presently Lead Nurse for Critical Care Outreach and Resuscitation at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.  Alongside her quality improvement and project management experience, Debbie has nationally national focussing on wellbeing and staff experience during COVID.  She has strong professional links across the entire North West London Critical Care Network with and has special interests in human factors and the deteriorating patient, service development and leadership within Critical Care Outreach.

Duncan is a clinical-academic with a background in cardiac and critical care nursing spanning two decades. Duncan holds a Senior Lecturer post in the School of Health and Psychological Sciences at City, University of London where he is a module leader for the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. He is an honorary Consultant Nurse with the Patient Emergency Response and Resuscitation Team at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where he continues to work clinical shifts. Duncan’s experience as a critical care outreach nurse in several organisations across London shaped his research activities pre-doctorally and informed his PhD. The overarching aim of his doctoral research was to develop a theory-based behaviour change intervention to optimise recognition of, and response to, patients with signs of clinical deterioration. Duncan is currently pursuing post-doctoral funding to progress his programme of research whilst supervising postgraduate students conducting research in the area.

Emma is currently working as a Senior Critical Care Outreach Practitioner at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.  After qualifying and graduating from The University of Birmingham in 1998, Emma gained ward experience in Infectious Diseases/Medicine before moving to the specialty of Critical Care in 2005, where she progressed into Critical Care Outreach in 2013.  Emma is passionate about innovation and service development to improve the care of the acutely ill and deteriorating patient, and has formed part of the working groups for the Critical Care Outreach Practitioner National and Career Framework and The Level 1 National Competency Framework. Emma was elected onto the Board of the National Outreach Forum in 2018 and continues to be an active member of the Executive Board currently holding the post of Treasurer.

Jayne is currently the Lead Nurse for Critical Care Outreach services at University Hospitals Birmingham. After qualifying in 1994, Jayne gained a variety of ward experience in surgery, before moving to Critical Care in 1996. Throughout Jayne’s extensive senior critical care nursing career, she was fortunate from early onset, to be an influential part of the on-going growth and development of the Critical Care Outreach Team. Where through organisational change, the team now forms part of the wider Critical Care services of University Hospitals Birmingham covering four acute hospital sites. As the Lead Nurse Jayne has continued to build strong multidisciplinary relationships and provides strategic leadership and vision for critical care services and the deteriorating patient within the Trust inclusive of adults, paediatrics and maternal services. Jayne has worked across the organisation supporting collaborative working relationships in education to optimise Critical Care Outreach practice, service delivery and patient safety initiatives.

I have been working as part of the Critical Care Outreach team within Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS trust for three years, with additional critical care experience prior to this. My physiotherapy scope of practice allows me to focus on the patient’s rehabilitation pathway from ICU stepdown to the wards, through to the community setting and then later in our outpatient clinic alongside the ICU follow-up team.

I work closely with the ITU and ward multidisciplinary team, where I am regularly involved in rehabilitation and goal setting, complex discharge planning and ongoing chest physiotherapy management.

Jonathan is an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner working in Birmingham (UHB). His passion is developing web teaching and podcasting resources for others in the area of critical care. He hosts a youtube channel dedicated to this. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick, teaching on advanced practice Masters modules.

Julia has thirty years of nursing experience, the majority in critical care. She has worked across the UK and overseas in Australia. Julia has experience as critical care outreach lead, nurse lead for sepsis and has led a nationally recognised medical examiner service which culminated in being awarded HSJ finalist for patient safety in 2018.

Julia commenced as Nurse Consultant in Critical Care and Outreach three years ago at the height of the COVID pandemic. As a member of the senior leadership team, she was integral to critical care expansion and workforce modelling to meet surge demands.

Since appointment the critical care outreach team have rapidly expanded at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to become a cross site 24/7 service. Expansion has led to many service improvements inclusive of appointment of an Outreach Physiotherapist leading outreach rehab and follow up. Call 4 Concern has been piloted and a communication pathway launched between outreach and palliative medicine for those patients nearing end of life. A collaboration between obstetrics, anaesthetics and outreach has also led to the introduction of an enhanced maternal care facility- the first in the region.

Jason is a consultant and clinical lead for critical care & CCOT at Whipps Cross Hospital Barts Health Trust. Locally, he is a committee member of the Deteriorating Patient Improvement and ACP Working Groups as well as co-chairing the Barts CCOT clinical steering group and recently appointed as the Northeast London CCOT medical lead. He has experience in QI to include Sepsis CQUIN work as lead clinician.  His clinical and research interests are Early Warning Score Systems, non-invasive-respiratory-support and sepsis. He was elected to the advisory committee of the International Society For Rapid Response Systems in late summer of 2023.

Claire is the nurse consultant for the Critical Care Outreach Team at East Surrey Hospital (Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust).  She has 28 years’ experience of working as a Critical Care nurse, and has seen a phenomenal number of changes during that time.

She is passionate about the prompt recognition and treatment of the acutely deteriorating patient, as well as end of life care. She is a ‘Q’ member through the Academic Health Science Network, as well as the Chair for the regional Critical Care Outreach network, and love networking. She really enjoys teaching and am an ALS instructor and has recently completed an MSc in Senior Leadership and Management, with her dissertation being on Organisational learning from patient safety incidents.

Outside of work she loves swimming and being a mum to two children and one dog!

Liz is currently working as Chief Nurse Information Officer at Royal Bath Hospital and was formerly Lead Nurse/Associate Director for North West London Critical Care Network.  Prior to this Liz was Nurse Consultant for Critical Care Outreach for at Hillingdon Hospitals and Buckinghamshire Hospitals.  She has worked in Critical Care for over 15 years, specialising in Critical Care Outreach since 2011, joining the NOrF exec team in 2017 and was Vice-Chair 2021-2023.  Liz has a passion for improving recognition and response to acute deterioration and has presented nationally and internationally on factors affecting nurse decision making when escalating deteriorating patients.  Liz is also an active member of the Intensive Care Society having been part of the State of the Art Congress organising committee and a member of the Nurse Professional Advisory Group since 2016.

Mark is an Advanced Nurse who has worked in Critical Care Outreach for Nineteen years. He has been an independent prescriber since 2011 and completed his MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice in 2014. His dissertation analysed the factors that support continuing professional development for nurse prescribers in secondary care. He has published twice reporting on data from an audit of prescribing practice in a critical care outreach team. For the last ten years, he has taught regularly on the independent prescribing course at the University of West London. More recently in 2019 he completed his ACCP training and also became accredited in Focused Intensive Care Echocardiography and Lung ultrasound.

Misha is one of the critical care outreach leads at Chelsea & Westminster NHS FDN Trust. She is an intensive care nurse by background, who aspires to be a clinical-academic practitioner. She also holds the roles of a divisional non-medical research lead, and the Medical Emergency nurse lead at West Middlesex Hospital.

Misha is a proactive member of multiple collaborative work streams including the North West London Critical Care Network CCO leads, focusing on standardising and benchmarking CCO activities regionally.   She is likewise heavily involved in education and training as an ALS, ALERT and BEACH instructor.  Misha has presented at multiple conferences showcasing the leadership of their CCO team on the nurse-led sepsis screening project, which led to a successful achievement of a timely review and antibiotics administration in her trust. 

Natalie is a clinical academic who has worked clinically in cancer, critical care and critical care outreach. She is a Professor of Clinical Nursing with a joint appointment across the University of Hertfordshire and East and North Herts NHS Trust (ENHT). Natalie also holds a Researcher in Residence (ICU) position at Imperial College London, working in the CATO team, with an honorary Nurse Consultant (Critical care) post with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. She is the clinical lead for the critical care follow-up service at ENHT, combining this with a research role. Her research interests focus on her clinical area of critical care and critically ill ward patients, outreach end of life in critical care, disability in critical care, and workforce in critical care. She is widely published in critical care with over a 100 publications. She is Chair of the National Outreach Forum, immediate past-Chair of both UK Critical Care Research Group, and the UK Critical Care Nursing Alliance. She is also Deputy Lead for the National Institute for Health Research National Specialty Group for Critical Care.

Dr Victoria Metaxa is a full-time Critical Care and Major Trauma Consultant, at King’s College Hospital in London. She is a King's College London Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, and has a PhD in neurosciences and an MA in Medical Ethics and Palliative Care from Keele University. Her clinical interests include bioethics, end-of-life care, critical care outreach and the management of patients with haematological malignancies. Dr Metaxa is a member of the European Society of Intensive Care (ESICM) Ethics section, and the representative of the section in the e-learning committee. She is the UK National Outreach Forum Board Secretary and a member of the Legal and Ethical Advisory Group of the UK Intensive Care Society (ICS).

Victoria has set up and leading on the haemato-oncology/ critical care provision at King’s College Hospital. She is heavily involved in the provision of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) -T therapy, aiming to accelerate clinical experience, promote research and define a working framework in the emerging field of immune cell therapy. She is the clinical lead for Critical Care Outreach Team of the Trust, as well as the end-of-life ICU lead.

I have been a registered nurse since 1995 starting my career within critical care where the passion for nursing critically ill patients developed.

My interest and passion in critically ill patients were enhanced further when a secondment opportunity arose to work on a project to introduce a standardised, method for identifying the ‘at risk’ patient within the ward environment called an Early Waring Score (EWS) now called National Early Warning Score (NEWS). Following this I had the opportunity to set up and develop the Critical Care Outreach service in 2009. During my time as Critical Care Outreach lead, I completed a PGCE, and an MSc Professional Practice which included becoming an independent prescriber.

In 2021 I was successfully seconded to the Acute Deterioration lead within my health board this role is focussed around ensuring standardisation in the identification escalation and response to the deteriorating patient. In February 2024 I had the additional role of senior nurse for the 3 outreach services within the health board. In 2021 I set up and co-chair the Welsh Outreach Forum which has representation form all teams and health boards and trusts in Wales.

David Antcliffe is a consultant in Critical Care at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. David has always had a strong interest in Critical Care Outreach during his training in both Acute and Critical Care Medicine. He is currently the Medical Lead for Critical Care Outreach for Imperial and is a member of the board of NOrF.
